Bus service cuts
Sir,—lf the Christchurch Transport Board’s general manager, Mr Max Taylor, and board members are serious about costsaving, why not start by cancelling positions for eight new inspectors and some $172,000 this year for a start? In the last five years the board has doubled the numbers of inspectors (now 31), managerial (assistant positions) and most clerical positions. All this increased expenditure is in spite of a reduced workload because of the continuing downward trend in bus patronage. — Yours, etc., P. J. NISBET. January 29, 1986.
