Premier car club meeting

The South Canterbury Car Club will hold its premier meeting of the season at Levels Raceway, Timaru, on Sunday. As well as the usual events for 0.5.C.A., Pre 65s and Mini 7s, there will also be national championship rounds for Formula Fords, Laser Sports and 2.5 litre G.T.s. While Avon Hyde must be favoured to extend his lead in the O.S.C.A. championship with his Commodore Chev, close opposition is expected from John Osborne, Mazda Chev, and lan Munt, Capri Chev. Interest in the Formula Ford events will centre around the efforts of the Ashburton driver, Andrew McElrea, to close the gap on the points table to championship leaders Craig Coleman and Glen Clark. McElrea knows the Levels circuit well, and must do well here if he is to have any chance of taking the national title.
