Wholesome films

[viewers'!

I VIEWS

Sir, —Television and movie theatre programmes over the past six holiday weeks have once again contained few really stimulating, enjoyable family films. “All the Rivers Run,” “World Safari” and “River Journeys” have been much appreciated; but the highly rated “Shaker Run” with its weak plot and Bond-like trail of violence, destruction, death and incredible waste was a great disappointment. It is vital that our young people, who spend so much time absorbing television, should have plenty of attractive films displaying the finest human qualities to balance the flood

of violence, immorality and obscenity so blatant in many programmes. Christchurch should be able to run at least one theatre where only wholesome, stimulating family films are screened — a wide selection from current topics to outstanding silents, foreign films, comedy, mystery, musicals, adventure, romance, classics, etc. Really good films can be stimulating, thought evoking and thrilling.—Yours, etc., TED MULCOCK.
