No room for Navy frigate
The Royal New Zealand Navy frigate H.M.N.Z.S. Waikato was diverted from Lyttelton to Dunedin yesterday because of congestion at Lyttelton’s oil wharf. The vessel, en route to the Campbell and Auckland Islands, was due to visit Lyttelton during the day for bunkering. It arrived in Dunedin yesterday morning, and sailed about 4 p.m. on a resupply trip to the southern islands. The vessel is due back at Lyttelton for bunkering on February 5.
H.M.N.Z.S. Waikato has been chosen to escort the Royal Yacht Britannia during its visit to New Zealand next month. Both- vessels will be in Lyttelton on February 27, and again on March 2.
