Ms Poananga to speak at forum
An outspoken advocate of Maori sovereignty, Ms Atareta Poanganga, and Waitemata City’s Mayor, Mr Tim Shadbolt, will be the key speakers at a forum on Waitangi Day issues at Christchurch on February 5.
A representative of the Ngai Tahu people, Mr Ricki Pitama, will also speak at the forum, which will be the highlight of activities run by the Waitangi Action and Learning Coalition. Maori land issues and the need for more pakeha responsibility would be discussed, said a coalition spokes-
man, the Rev. Rob Ritchie. The forum will be held in the Limes Room of the Christchurch Town Hall. All points of view would be welcome, said Mr Ritchie. Coalition members were likely to gather at Okains Bay on Waitangi Day although protests would be made only if there were official celebrations, he said. Other activities planned included a silent procession through Christchurch on Friday and a rock concert at the Christchurch Youth Centre on Sunday evening.
