Dutch deport Irishman
NZPA-Reuter Amsterdam An Irishman arrested this month in Amsterdam with two alleged Irish Republican Army guerrillas was deported from the Netherlands to Dublin yesterday. Michael James Kelly, aged 36, was put on a plane from Amsterdam airport after the Dutch police dropped arms charges against him and the Belgian authorities abandoned plans to try to extradite him to face similar charges. He was arrested on January 16 with two alleged I.R.A. fugitives,
Brendan McFarlane and Gerard Kelly. Sixteen weapons and 70,000 rounds of ammunition were seized at the same time. Britain has asked to extradite McFarlane and Gerard Kelly, who have been wanted since their escape in a mass jailbreak from Northern Ireland’s Maze prison in 1983. Police sources said it had taken some time to establish Michael Kelly’s true identity, and this had only been done when his lawyer supplied his passport.
