Students object to fee claim
Malaysian students strongly object to a claim by the Minister of Education, Mr Marshall, that $lOOO university fees are insignificant for overseas students.
Mr Marshall reportedly said that the fees were “no great shakes” for most students after attending a conference for South-East Asian Education Ministers in Brunei. However, the president of the Union of Malaysian Students in New Zealand, Mr Tony Lai, said Mr Marshall had got the wrong picture of overseas students. Many were struggling to survive. The Government is at present considering removing the fee and Mr Lai said he welcomed the move to honour an election promise and abolish
