Meat pay talks to resume
PA Wellington Meat industry unions will meet the Federation of Labour tomorrow to discuss unresolved pay talks.
The Meatworkers' Union and the Engineers’ Union, which represents industry tradesmen, will be involved.
Meat workers’ pay talks broke down last week and have been referred to the Arbitration Court The workers are claiming a 15.5 per cent pay increase — the going rate for the wage round. Em-
ployers are offering a $23 a week increase which for many workers is equivalent to a 4 or 5 per cent rise.
Freezing industry tradesmen have met employers on two occasions so far to negotiate the freezing industry tradesmen’s wage agreement without a settlement Those talks will resume after the unions have met with the F.O.L.
Freezing industry employers have offered tradesmen a flat incibase of $25 a week.
