Shareholders’ Enterprise
PA Wellington NZI Corp, Ltd, wants 1500 of its shareholders to spend $2.25M in a fund-raising bid for Digby Taylor’s round-the-world racing yacht, NZI Enterprise. In a pamphlet sent with the insurance giant’s interim report, shareholders are offered a “collector’s item” consisting of a gold commemorative coin, a wail chart, a copy of a book to be published about the Enterprise voyage, and a special “skipper’s log” for a total cost of $l5OO. The gold coin, minted by Auckland Coin and Bullion Exchange, Ltd, weighs one troy ounce. One side shows a stylised illustration of NZI Enterprise and the other features the skipper, Taylor, at the helm in heavy seas.
The NZI managing director, Mr David Chalmers, said NZI had given significant financial support to the Enterprise challenge as a major sponsor, but substantial funds were still required.
