Addicts and A.I.D.S

Sir, — While not doubting the sincerity of those who have rushed in to heap opprobrium on my head for having dared to disagree publicly with them, I have no desire to continue what would only be an exercise in semantics. I do not claim to be

“holier than thou,” just an ordinary Kiwi joker to whom the abnormal practices indulged in by. homosexuals and addicts are repugnant'. f The sad thing about this correspondence, however, is that, merely to express opposition to views held by minority groups is to invite filthy letters and obscene phone calls — all anonymous, of course. Sic transit freedom of speech. As far as I am concerned, this correspondence is now closed. — Yours, etc. LESLIE BOGREN. January 23, 1986.

Sir, — I see your correspondent, Leslie Bogren (January 25), has once again wrenched himself away from the Old Testament long enough to have another dissertation. Homosexuality and drug addiction are not to be seen as abnormalities. That is a first step towards love of your fellow man. Supplying drug addicts with sterile needles is a sane step in the right direction. — Yours, etc.,

JOHN W. HARDING. January 24, 1986.
