The heat is on fans
Some Christchurch shops have been inundated with requests for portable fans - as householders try to beat the humidity of the last few weeks. However, the run on portable fans has not been the same for all stores. About half of the shops approached by “The Press” yesterday reported big increases in fan sales
and others said sales were normal. The manager of Milligan’s Appliance Traders, Mr Robin Milligan, said he had “just about' sold out of everything” and had not been able to replace his stocks immediately. He suggested that people could use their fan heaters as fans. ■’ ' A home appliance salesman at Smith and Brown,
Ltd, Mr Doug Smith, said there had been a “phenomenal” number of inquiries about fans, especially small personal fans. Customers had even asked to buy the fans which the shop used. The weather office says that higher humidity levels than usual have caused Christchurch people to feel the heat more.
