N.Z. firm hits Japan jackpot
NZJN Tokyo Woolrest Corporation has hit a multi-million-dollar jackpot in Japan. After years of trying, the Hamilton-based maker of woollen underlays has won a contract with a Tokyo company for first-year sales of 20,000 underlays, worth from $lO million to $l7 million retail. Woolrest’s president, Mr Bill Hall, negotiated the new contract with Tsumura Juntendo, a Tokyo firm specialising in bath salts. Juntendo’s president, Mr Akira Tsumura, said his company would import 20,000 of the under-
lays by April this year. “The Woolrest product fits in with our diversification into health product sales,” Mr Tsumura said. “We are going to distribute them through about 45,000 retail outlets, mainly pharmacies and small general stores.” He said they would retail about $590 to $750 each, depending on the product. If sales went as planned, another 20,000 would be ordered by the end of the year. More sales would be achieved in a mail-order campaign.
