Neighbour saves home
An alert neighbour saved a Papanui rest home from possible fire damage about 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Mr Graham Ryder, proprietor of the Belmont Rest Home in Harewood Road, said two slight fires had developed in an outside wall, while paint was being burnt off. The fires went un-
noticed at the rest home, but an alert neighbour dashed across the road to raise the alarm, he said. Mr Ryder does not know who his watchful neighbour was. But the man’s actions and the arrival of fire engines meant that there was little damage and no inconvenience.
