Good prizes in season’s contests

A number of fishing contests are planned in the next two months which will entice fishermen to the rivers. An on-going fishing competition is run by Cromb and Merritt Sports throughout the fishing season. The main prize, worth $lOOO for the heaviest fish of the season, is an Abu fish reel, a Kilwell rod, a Seiko watch and a week’s accommodation for two at the Mount Hutt Lodge. Total prizes are valued

Thirteen different fishing contests will be held throughout New Zealand as part of the Dalwa international fishing circuit. A one day contest, the Daiwa P. and N. contest, will be held on Saturday, February 22, between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the Waimakariri. Prizes are valued at

$2OOO for senior and junior entrants. Entry is $6 for senior and $3 for junior.

The Daiwa Rakaia River Salmon Fishing Contest starts on Wednesday, February 26, and ends on Sunday, March 2. The first prize is $2OOO and there are seven more prizes. The first prize also includes a trip for two to Rotorua. Both these contests qualify for the Daiwa circuit contest and the person catching the largest qualifying fish with a Daiwa rod and/or reel could be in line for a trip to Canada.

The competition on the Waitaki running March 7 to 10, has a total of $30,000 in prize money. Final prizes total $lO,OOO and the person with the heaviest salmon weighing over 20kg also wins a Honda City car. There are daily prizes for the heaviest salmon

and a $5OO shared prize. The entry fee is $3O.

The New Zealand Salmon Anglers Association is planning to run a fishing contest on the Waimakariri River, March 14 to 16.

The first three prizes are rods and Shimano reels plus cash prizes of $lOOO, $5OO and $3OO. There are prizes for junior entrants as well. The entry fee is $l5 for senior and $5 for junior.
