Tankers derailed

Three petrol tankers were derailed on the Lyttelton wharves yesterday afternoon, after the old railway tracks they were on “moved a bit sideways,”’ said Mr W. J. Amer, the Lyttelton Stationmaster. Two fire engines were called at 2.25 p.m., but no

petrol leaked from the tankers. Mr Amer said the problem of spreading rails on No. 7 wharf had caused previous derailments, but usually only a single wagon was involved. Work by the Lyttelton Harbour Board should soon eliminate problems caused by the old rails.
