Mene puts record at veteran champs

The Canterbury veteran, Sally Mene, set a new Canterbury record for the shot put at the Canterbury veteran athletics championships at Queen Elizabeth II Park yesterday. Mene, competing in the women’s 35 year grade, threw the shot 11.36 m to establish the new mark.

While Mene’s performance was the highlight in women’s grades, D. Tucker (men’s 50 years section) took out first place in the over-all men’s pentathlon, beating the challenge of younger participants. The points system takes into account the ages of com-

petitors. Results were:— Pentathlon: D. Tucker 3432 pts, 1; M. Fraser 3113 pts, 2; C. O’Brien 2633 pts, 3. Pre-veterans: D. Kettle 1803, 1. Men.— 40 years: G. Blair 1847, 1; B. Howard 1304, 2. 45 years: M. Fraser 2448, 1; B. Senior 1370, 2. 50 years: D. Tucker 2614, 1; C. O’Brien

1649, 2; Savage 770, 3. 55 years: A. Mahan 1645, 1; A. Graybum 1362, 2. 60 years: J. King 2048, 1. Women.— 35 years: S. Mene 3149, 1; 45 years: V. Hood 2344, 1; 50 years: I. Bishop 458, 1.
