Who is the worst dressed of them all?
NZPA-Reuter Atlantic City
Princess Stephanie of Monaco is top of the annual list of the world’s 10 worst-dressed women, issued by a United States fashion designer, Richard Blackwell. But her sister, Princess Caroline, made the Los Angeles designer’s list of the 10 best-dressed women, as did Britain’s Princess of Wales, who led the worst-dressed list in 1983. The British actress, Joan Collins, of television’s “Dynasty” series, was second on this year’s
list of worst-dressed women. She was top of the list in 1984, and was fifth last year. Richard Blackwell suggested she might be a trifle plump. Known professionally as Mr Blackwell, the designer issued his annual worst-dressed list at an Atlantic City casino hotel. The nominees, including some of his comments:
(1) Princess Stephanie: “Her royal unisex wardrobe entitles her to use either bathroom.”
(2) Joan Collins: “One more pushup and she’ll
have three chins.” (3) Pop singer, Madonna:
“Skid row’s nomination for a poverty party centrepiece contest.”
(4) Rock singer .Tina Turner: . “Some women dress for men, some dress for women, some dress for laughs.”
(5) Actress Michele Lee, of the television series, "Knots Landing.”
(6) Whoopi Goldberg, of the film “The Colour Purple.”
(7) Actress. Sybil Sheperd. (8) Pop singer, Apollonia. (9) Actress, Lisa Hartman. (10) Actress, Heather Thomas, from “The Fall Guy.”
Blackwell’s list of 10 best-dressed women included Nancy Reagan, her
Soviet counterpart Raisa Gorbachev, and the actresses Jaclyn Smith, Meryl Streep, Mary Tyler Moore, Priscilla Presley, Jane Wyman, and Jane Seymour.
Paper Doll’s Lauren Hutton received the “Fabulous Woman of the Year Award."
“She has that look, in a low, plunging neckline, cigarette holder and that certain smile. It’s what the American woman wants to look like,” Blackwell said.
The popular pianist, Liberace, never known for under-dressing, won the “Halley’s Comet Award’ for an “out-of-this-world brilliant array of flash? glitzy glamour.”
