Markets in Asia rebound
NZPA-AFP Singapore Stockmarkets in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong steadied yesterday after prices tumbled in reaction to the detention on Tuesday of an influential Malaysian businessman and politician, Mr Tan Koon Swan. Share prices showed marginal gains in Singa-
pore after heavy selling on Wednesday sent major indices to a three-year low following Mr Tan’s arrest. Singapore Airlines stock was up 2c to 554.84 over Wednesday, brokers said. Resumed buying in Hong Kong also brought renewed calm to the local market, which suffered a near 40 points plunge on Wednesday.
