Guerrillas have Kampala—Radio
NZPA-Reuter Nairobi Ugandan rebels had captured Kampala after two days of fierce fighting against - Government forces, Radio Tanzania reported last evening.
It said there were reports that Yoweri Museveni, leader of the rebel National Resistance Army, had arrived in the capital. Ugandan troops and rebels had been reported to be locked in battle for control of the city earlier yesterday.
Britain and the United, States had warned their nationals there to remain behind locked doors for safety, more than 48
hours after the guerrillas moved into the southern suburbs.
Telecommunications links between Kampala and Kenya and much of the outside world were cut on Saturday after retreating Government soldiers blew up a microwave relay station, Western diplomats in Nairobi said. There was no news of the Ugandan leader, Lieu-tenant-General Tito Okello.
The Tanzanian President, Mr Ali Hassan Mwinyi, flew to Kenya on Friday for talks with Daniel arap Moi, President of Kenya, about Uganda.
