Brief bid for freedom

A Paparua Prison escaper had a short-lived taste of freedom yesterday before being recaptured.

The prisoner, aged 26, was noticed missing from a work party about 2.30 p.m. He was found by the police about 4 p.m. in a car seen near the prison. A police spokesman said the man would appear in the District Court charged with escaping. A male, aged 24, and a female will also appear in court later in the week charged with helping the escaped prisoner.
