Blow to childcare funding
PA Rotorua Some childcare centres could be forced to drop staff because of the end of funding by the Lottery Board, the chairwoman of the Labour Women’s Council, Miss Jan Walker, has said. At the least the centres would have to spend a lot more time raising funds, she said. Miss Walker said the decision by the Lottery Board to drop the funding was premature.
The board’s reason was that the Government had taken over responsibility for childcare and preschool education. But Miss Walker said it could be a year before the Government funding was available.
Lottery Board grants to childcare and preschool education last year announced to $154,900.
