Sirex should take beating today

Special correspondent

Auckland

Sirex should be too good for his rivals in the Ellerslie Anniversary Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting today.

With 16 entries, among them Document, Lord Vegas and Trocane, an interesting race was in prospect, but Saturday's prolonged rain and its affect on the track has more than cut that number in half. Sirex notched his sixth win when he led all the

way in a 2200 m at Pukekohe last Saturday week.

That was a first-class effort on the testing course and Sirex would have to be in no better form to beat the six opposing him this time.

Sirex seems able to manage most types of footing and he has won a 2100 m on the new track where they race today.

Black Visa and Our Janie should give Sirex most opposition.

Diamond Lover will be a big attraction in the second leg, the Singapore

Sprint Handicap. She recently completed a most impressive hat trick of wins and for sheer pace would have few peers, perhaps, anywhere in New Zealand.

Bob Vance, her regular rider, cannot make the 50.5 kg she has today and the trainer, Colin Jillings, had not yesterday settled on a replacement

Rosman, third two starts back in the Flag Inns Trophy, and Peg’s Girl look the next best after Diamond Lover.
