Problem for Chch bowls
The rain at the week-end has given the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s match committee a big problem. No play at all was possible in the open pairs, the biggest tournament in terms of entries, run by the centre each season.
"It was a bad week-end to lose,” said the chairman of the match committee, Mr Arch Murray, yesterday.
"Even one day’s play would have been a great help.”
Mr Murray said that his committee was keen to still try and play the tournament out but its options were limited.
"We have thought of playing it next week-end when there would be a clash with the Rothmans inter-centre event at Oamaru. To do this would take but more than just the representative players; the sub-centres all have events scheduled for those two days and a lot of country
bowlers would be left with dual engagements. “Apart from next week-end there is no other free weekend before Easter and what we are looking at is playing the pairs after Easter. "It helps that Easter is early this year and playing bowls through to mld-April is nothing new,” said Mr Murray.
The match committee will meet today to make a decision.
