Chief’s medicine ‘helps’
NZPA-Reuter Rio De Janeiro Augusto Ruschi, the world’s leading authority on hummingbirds, said he felt better yesterday after turning to an Indian chief and tribal rituals to save him from poisoning by black toads.
The first of a series of rituals was conducted by a Brazilian witchdoctor chief who says he can cure Ruschi, though there is no known antidote for the poison. Raoni said the rituals consisted of smoking a pipe, herbal baths and blowing smoke into the patient’s body. Then he scrubs the body until a green film comes out of it.
