Seminar on defence
PA Wellington The Ministry of Defence will hold a seminar in March to persuade New Zealand manufacturers to make more of the equipment it now buys from overseas. Kevin McMahon, the deputy assistant Secretary of Defence (support), said the Ministry was looking at boosting the ratio of locally produced products
and cutting back imports. The one-day seminar would give manufacturers an idea of trends in defence procurement during the next few years and examine what imported goods could be produced in New Zealand, Mr McMahon said. A similar seminar held two years ago attracted strong support and resulted in some product
lines once imported being • locally produced, he said. > Mr McMahon said pub- .1 lie notices placed in news- ! papers to gauge support i for the seminar had ? yielded enthusiastic re-j plies. j A date for the seminar ! would be set when the , Ministry had received all registrations and could; decide the size of venue < required, he said. •
