Hunt off after driver seen
PA Blenheim The police have called off their hunt for the driver of a van left parked by the Ure River bridge after being told of a positive sighting of the missing man in Christchurch on Tuesday. The discovery of the Escort van, which was apparently left unattended for about two weeks, prompted a search of the area yesterday. A team of seven, led by Constable Peter Woodward, scoured the treacherous coastline after fears that the driver might have got into difficulties. But Constable Woodward said the van’s owner, Mr Michael Burrows from Kaita, near Greymouth, was seen by a friend in Christchurch earlier in the week.
