Construction/Contracting Top Management Fletcher Challenge Limited Three very senior positions in New Zealand’s largest construction/contracting enterprise are becoming available because of internal promotion, intra-group transfer and the need to strengthen the management team in advance of several top level retirements (including the Chief Executive) over the next couple of years. The Construction Sector of Fletcher Challenge Limited is a $5OO million business employing over 2,000 people and active in commercial building and development, civil and heavy industrial contracting (including turnkey capability), building services and mechanical/electrical engineering, construction plant hire, roading and other services. Overseas operations, which account for 40% of turnover, are primarily in Australia, South East Asia and the South Pacific. All three appointments offer opportunities for promotion in not only the Construction Sector but also the entire Fletcher Challenge Group. Initial salaries will be negotiated at very attractive and competitive levels, supplemented by provision of company car. Relocation expenses will be reimbursed if applicable. Applicants for the three positions indicated below should possess appropriate tertiary qualifications of professional standard together with a superior track record at senior level in a large contracting company utilising advanced management practices. Potential for promotion to even more senior executive levels in the short to medium term is fundamentally important. General Manager Civil/Mech Division This Auckland head office position heads up one of three divisions constituting the Construction Sector. The incumbent is responsible to the Chief Executive for planning and controlling the profitable performance and further development of a division comprising a multiplicity of contracting operations/business units. Candidates’ careers should have included major project management, with subsequent broadening to the functions of marketing, administration, financial control and employee relations. Age preferably mid thirties to mid forties or a little older. Regional General Manager — Building The appointee, who will be located in a principal New Zealand city, will be responsible to the General Manager or the Building and Property Development Division for the achievement of profitable results and growth in a region with between 200 and 500 permanent employees. The role is largely autonomous with subordinate executives in charge of construction, development, design and administration/accounting. An "all-rounder” with at least some commercial building background is required. Age 30 — 45 years but flexible. Construction Manager Overseas Division This executive is one of two Construction Managers reporting to the General Manager of the Overseas Division (which spans all activities of the Construction Sector outside New Zealand). Accountability is for efficient operation, resourcing, cost/time control and administration of contracts in countries as assigned, through regional/site managers. Regular overseas travel from Auckland head office is entailed, although relocation offshore might eventuate. The bias is towards commercial building but construction management experience in other areas of contracting could be suitable. Age about 35-50 years.
