General Manager for the development and implementation of internal audit programmes and will be encouraged to recommend improvements in company procedures. The company is active in the wholesaling and retailing of a wide range of grocery, variety and liquor merchandise, with a total of five outlets including two modern supermarkets. This executive will head up the Merchandise Department (10 staff) which includes four senior expatriate managers. The prime responsibility is for achievement of sales, gross profit, stock and mark down budgets through control of the ranging, selection, buying, pricing, merchandising, advertising and sales promotion functions. Most goods are imported from Australia, New Zealand and Asian countries and travel to these areas is required. Applicants must be successful and innovative senior retail/wholesale executives whose careers have emphasised merchandise buying/ management, including policy development. Knowledge of both food and variety merchandise is desirable. Age will likely be in the 30-45 years range. Initial appointment will be on a two year contract basis and open-ended thereafter.
