Sockburn Pool proves a growing attraction
The new Sockbum Pool and Recreation Centre had proved a growing attraction, said the complex manager, Mr John Cousins, yesterday. He was reporting to the Paparua County Council’s first reserves committee meeting for the year.
“The new waterslide has been an outstanding success,” Mr Cousins said. “Inside facilities are popular, with squash figures up on last season.
“We have planned a
gala day for Saturday, February 1, to include a barbecue, disco and a general family fun day.” .v The council exceeded its budget for this stage of the complex’s development, said the county engineer, Mr J. D. Annan. Extra costs were incurred for driving in concrete piles, removing buried tree stumps and provided facilities for handicapped people. Cr D. R. Shipley said future development of the
complex could include a mini-golf course and adventure playground. Mr Annan reported that the council was waiting for directions from the county solicitor before a Chokebore Lodge trust could be formed. The historic lodge is to be part of a reserve managed by the council. Until its future use was decided, its present tenants would remain with a month to month rental, Mr Annan said.
