Shark fear advice
; Recent shark sightings at Christchurch’s beaches have prompted warnings from the Canterbury Surf Life-Saving Association for swimmers to stay in patrolled areas. The association’s patrol co-ordinator, Mr Geoff Barry, said more than 10 sharks had been sighted
off North Beach during the last few days. Surf life-savers watched for sharks while on patrol and could warn swimmers using patrolled areas. People who insisted on swimming outside patrolled areas should take special care not to go too far off-shore.
