Gunn shines
PA Wellington In pint-sized Karen Gunn, New Zealand women’s cricket has unearthed a player with the punch of a giant Gunn, a Cantabrian, who first played for New Zealand on the tour of India and Australia last season, cracked the Australian innings wide open in second leg of the Shell Rose Bowl one-day series with a superb bowling performance — and then belted the winning runs with her no-nonsense attitude Just when it appeared the Kiwis were going to choke on the death-knock.
Gunn’s two for 13 from 12 overs slowed the Australian run-rate to a dribble
Then New Zealand batted sensibly and brightly and always appeared to have that target under control until near the end when runs dried up and a couple of wickets were lost in a jittery period.
This didn’t worry the relatively inexperienced Gunn. She strode to the wicket at the fall of the fifth wicket, cracked a couple of lovely cover drives and had the run problem back under control.
