Birds to get lofty homes
NZPA-AAP London In London they are considered a health hazard and a nuisance, but in New-castle-upon-Tyne the council is putting up luxury houses for them. The city’s pigeons are to get luxury lofts worth £ 12,000 (134,320) from the council. The up-market bird abodes will be built along with a clubhouse, so pigeon fanciers can view the birds’ comings and goings. However, conservative councillors feel it is an outrageous affront in an area of high unemployment. “That sort of money would be better spent improving council homes for people,” the Tory leader, Mr Bill Moore, said.
