Tussle may go to Melbourne

There is a chance that the outstanding trotting mare, Tussle, will compete in the Australian Championship at Moonee Valley, Melbourne, in March. “I’m quite interested in making the trip with her, but will not make a final decision until I get some indication of what handicap mark she will have to start from,” said her owner-trainer, Cliff Irvine, yesterday. “I have made some tentative Inquiries about accommodation for her in Melbourne and also transport,” he said. Wedgewood and Simon Katz, two other Canterbury trotters invited to compete in the series, will remain at home and

be prepared for racing at Addington at Easter, to be followed by the Rowe Cup at Alexandra Park in May.

The retirement of Preux Chevalier has played its part in influencing Canterbury trainers to nominate horses for the InterDominion Championship series in Brisbane in April. Royden Glen, Borana, Lady El and Our Mana are almost certain entries, while Lord Louie, Spry Joker and others have the series as a possible part of their autumn racing. Reports from Auckland suggest that entries from that area could be larger than usual.
