Malaz a dominating favourite at Forbury
Special correspondent Dunedin
Malaz has been left a dominating favourite for the first heat of the Anngow Motors Championship at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow night with the scratching of five of the original acceptors.
Malaz Is the lone openclass horse in the field and he set a national record of 3min 14.6 s (2:00.5 mile rate) for 2600 m at his most recent start on January 3 at Addington. He should be untroubled to dispose of his 11
rivals. Malaz has had one start at Forbury Park, finishing third to Nardinski and Folie Bergere as a two-year-old in March, 1984.
He shares the 20m mark with Titan Chip and Loveridge. Titan Chip beat Malaz at Invercargill in September but the former was in receipt of 20m on that occasion.
Loveridge has been racing soundly, finishing third to Master Mood and Pixanover in the Wellington Cup last week. Saucy Star, the runnerup to Master Mood at Rangiora last month and
winner of four of her eight starts this season will come in for support. Maureen’s Dream may be too speedy for her rivals in the second leg of the T.A.B. double.
She ran a Imin 58.9 s mile rate for 2000 m (mobile) at Addington in
November. A seasonal condition may have accounted for her lack-lus-tre performances at the Canterbury Park New Year meeting. She won over 2400 m in 3min 8.6 s at the Ashburton trials last week. Maureen’s Dream has come into the front line with scratchings.
