Fish ’n’ chips still tops

NZPA London British children are chips off the old block.

A survey by a British comic has found that fish and chips are still more popular than hamburgers, books are preferred to television, and Monopoly is way ahead of Space Invaders. The “Buster Comic” published these findings after surveying 4000 children between the ages of seven and 11.

The results, based on a random sample of 300 replies, also showed that “Coronation Street” was even popular with children. Of television, only five listed it as a hobby. Reading topped the poll with 43,

stamp collecting, 40, and swimming, 21.

When it comes to bestloved toys and games, Monopoly had 79 supporters, Cluedo, 28, and Star Wars 24.

The most popular career was professional footballer, with 39 setting their sights on emulating their heroes. Another 18 fancied becoming teachers or policemen, while 16 wanted to be nurses.

The eating question really showed true Briitsh tradition — 145 reckon they could sit down to fish and chips every day. Roasts received 44 votes, and ’burger and chips was third with 43.
