Recreational groups organise display
Six Christchurch recreational groups have banded together for the first time to bring home a message to shoppers at Merivale Mall. The groups have organised a display to make the public aware of the danger to the natural environment of rivers if they are allowed to be over-used for irrigation and power. The display, organised on behalf of the groups by Mr P. W. Quinn, includes two jet boats, mounted salmon, examples of riverbed vegetation and a continuous video show on the theme of conservation. Th groups are the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society, the Save the Rivers Action Committee, the Jetboat Association, the Rakaia River Association, and the Salmon Anglers Association. The display will be open until Saturday afternoon.
