Pedestrian dies

A woman pedestrian who was struck by a police van in Ham Road last Thursday has died in the intensivecare unit at Christchurch Hospital. She was Thelma Olga Hyacinth Brown, aged 74, a widow, of 648 Kirkwood Avenue, Riccarton.

The police are still investigating the accident, which occurred at the pedestrian crossing near Rountree Street.

It was the second fatal accident at the crossing. A man, aged 70, died in hospital two months after he had been struck by a car there last August.
