Tourists ‘harassed by customs’
NZPA Suva The Suva Chamber of Commerce is worried that tourists who bring goods into Fiji with the intention of taking them back out when they leave are being harassed by customs officers demanding payment of duty.
The chamber has asked the Government for help over the issue. Members felt that the problem could be solved if tourists were given special stickers to put on the articles, or if the articles were put in bond and collected on departure.
Customs officers were demanding duty payments for such things as cameras and binoculars which tourists used during their stay in Fiji, the chamber said.
