Chairman dies
PA Auckland Mr Noel Avery, the chairman of Alex Harvey Industries and Morrison-P.I.M. Holdings, Ltd, died on Sunday. He was 63. His involvement with other companies included directorships on A.C.I. International, Ltd, Sun Alliance Insurance, and Canterbury Timber Products. Mr Avery was born in Nelson, was educated at Rongotai College, Wellington, and joined the National Bank as a clerk in 1932. He joined the Reserve Bank, Wellington, in 1939, rising to become deputy
chief cashier in 1956. Mr Avery was promoted to Auckland branch manager in 1962, where he was mainly involved with exchange control during a period of tight regulation during the late 19605. He retired in 1972, becoming a director of Management Consultants, Ltd, and A.H.I. The next year he was appointed chairman of A.H.L, and Hogg Robinson and Gardner Mountain (N.Z.), Ltd. Mr Avery, who died suddenly at his Milford home, is survived by his wife and three adult children.
