Freeze exemptions granted last week
PA Wellington The Government approved 17 hardship applications for price rises during the week .ended June 29. The Acting Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Allen, said yesterday that 29 hardship applications were received during that week, seven were declined, and two withdrawn. Mr Allen said the department investigated 94 complaints of breaches of the freeze and found that 90 per cent of the prices (85) were correct.
During the week, the department received 101 complaints. The main categories were: grocers, 19; fees for services, 14; and hardware products, 9. Some of the 17 applications approved were:
Chevron Coffee Lounge, Christchurch, an average increase in food and drink lines of 9.5 per cent. Motorsport Association of N.Z., Wellington, an over-all increase of 24 per cent in fees.
Rendezvous Restaurant, Nelson, an increase of 3 per cent on food lines.
Southern Cyclist, Inc., Auckland, an increase of 25 per
cent for the national magazine. Tasman Pulp and Paper, Ltd, Kawerau, increases of $4O a tonne for newsprint supplied to members of the Newspaper Publishers’ Association and an increase of $5O a tonne in pulp prices. Telephone Services Tearoom Committee, Christchurch, an average increase of 7 per cent for food and drink lines. The Blue Gum Lodge Motel, Christchurch, an increase of 13.4 per cent for accommodation. The New Zealand Institute of Management, Wellington, an increase of $8 per pupil in the student registration and exemption fee for the Certificate in Supervision and Basic Management.
