2.5 kg penalty for My Axeman
NZPA staff correspondent Sydney My Axeman has received a 2.5 kg penalty for the $175,000 Fourex Cup at Doomben on Saturday, after his stylish win in Saturday’s Rothmans 100,000. He will now carry 58kg for the 2200 m event, only 2kg less than the topweight, Prince Majestic. The Brisbane Turf Club handicapper, Mr Roy Beckerman, could have added anything up to 6.5 kg after the New Zealander’s runaway win in the week-end sprint, and rival trainers are already rating him the one to beat.
My Axeman’s trainer, Kevin Griffin, is reported to be shocked at the weight rise, although observers were predicting a 3kg increase.
Prince Majestic came in for similar attention from Mr Beckerman last week after he won the Tattersail’s Cup at Eagle Farm, and went up 2kg, much to the annoyance of his trainer, Ray Verner.
There will be 20 horses in the Fourex Cup and two emergencies when the field is finalised today, while the barrier will be decided tomorrow.
The field is expected to come from the followPrince Majestic 60; My Axeman 58; Silver Bounty 56; Bound To Honour 54; El
Laurena 53; Triumphal March 52.5; Avitt, Bencarra, Just For Tristram, Noble Comment, Rose and Thistle 51; Double You Em 50.5; Claymore Boy, Glesomino, Sovereign Chief 50; Bidston Hill, Lancelotto, Malvita, Smokey Babylon 49; Confidentially 48.5; Fast Food 47; Lord Seaman 46.5.
