Milestones
Air New Zealand’s domestic division is planning to take a leaf from the Mount Cook Line’s book and provide snacks to passengers on main trunk flights. It is planning to offer a choice of open sandwiches or Danish pastries, as well as the old standby crackers and cheese. Passengers on Mount Cook Line flights between Christchurch and Rotorua are given a snack basket containing a club sandwich, slice of cake and fruit.
Travellers forced to abandon their vehicles at Christchurch Airport can save money if they steer clear of the airport’s carpark and head instead for the Airport Service Station which is next to the White Heron Hotel in Memorial Avenue. The big difference in fees is that the airport carpark
charges $3 a day while the service station charges $3 a night. For instance, a car parked at the airport from 9 a.m. one day to 2 p.m. the next day will run up a fee of $6, twice as much as the service station would charge for the same period. Cars are also kept under cover (with regular security checks) at the service station and there is a free delivery service to the airport terminal. Passengers arriving on late flights can pick up their keys at the Hertz desk. ♦ ♦ ♦ Cathay Pacific made aviation history on Saturday when it introduced the first non-stop service from London to Hong Kong. The flight, the airline’s eighth weekly between the two cities, takes slightly more than 13 hours.
