Employers risk prosecution
Employers who have not yet supplied the Inland Revenue Department with details of tax paid by their employees may soon be prosecuted.
While more than 10,000 Christchurch employers have filed their annual IR6B P.A.Y.E. reconciliation statements and paid their accident compensation employer levies, 1380 employers have not yet done so. The statement and the payment were due on May 31.
The department is making moves to prosecute the “negligent” employers, according to the district commissioner of the department, Mr A. N. McPherson. Employers who are con-
victed could be fined up to $5OO. Mr McPherson said that any employers who were having difficulty completing the statement should seek assistance from the department.
