Plans for wool use

Sir,—Margaret Stove’s master {dan for New Zealand woolcrafts “The Press”, June 27) is a practical step toward producing quality handcrafts from our superb wools. When qualified tutors are available to teach the many crafts using wool, greater supplies will be available to answer the tourists’ query, “Where can we buy these beautiful soft woolcrafts?” In the meantime, spinners, weavers, knitters and people who crochet are, through their craft, with the skills of the fanners and the

generosity of the sheep of many breeds, reawakening the world’s awareness of the value and beauty of wool. The pity is that handcrafted articles are not valued locally and the low prices offered for handknitted garments deters many from offering things for sale. That is especially sad when we are now trying to find quality products unique to New Zealand to offer tourists as souvenirs. — Yours, etc., DAPHNE CRAMPTON. July 3, 1983.
