Two die, one hurt

Two women were killed and another was seriously injured in a car crash near Waimate on Saturday. The dead women were:

Jan Margaret Schaumann, aged 21, of Manapouri; and Michelle Louise Watson, aged 21, of Wairoa.

Deborah Jan Bearsley, aged 21, of Napier, is in a serious but stable condition in Dunedin Hospital.

The car was found overturned in a culvert on State highway 1, just south of the Studholme turn-off, by a passing motorist about 8.30 a.m.

The time of the accident is not known. It is believed the car was travelling south when it ran off the road.
