Broodmare honour
PA Napier The Ashburton-owned broodmare, Castleton’s Queen, has won the Broodmare of the Year prize for the 1982-83 season.
Announcing the award at the New Zealand Trotting Conference annual meeting, the conference’s outgoing president, Sir James Barnes, said Castleton’s Queen, owned by Mr Mawson McPherson, of Ashburton, had left five race foals which between them had won 45 races and a further 70 platings for total stakes of more than $lBO,OOO.
