PA Dunedin Although the Lions had lost the test series they had performed with credit “and can have reason for pride,” according to the captain, Ciaran Fitzgerald. “I want to say to the 1983 British Lions, thank you for your support, your hard work and your co-operation. Let no-one say this side does not have character or identity,” he said after the third test loss on Saturday. “I am aware of great character within this side and though the test series is lost I think the Lions have performed with credit and
can have reason for pride.” He congratulated the All Blacks on their deserved win. “I would like to think that it would be hard enough to beat the British Isles once but to beat us in three successive matches takes a special kind of confidence and ability,” he said. “To Andy and the All Blacks I would say, remember, the series is not over yet. There is another test match in Auckland in two weeks time and I believe we have the character and determination to win it.”
