Liquor advertisements
Sir,—l too object to advertisements on TV which meet the rules as they stand on liquor advertising. There is a proven correlation between an increase in alcohol consumption and an increase in the incidence of alcoholism. That and the proportion of road deaths and maimings that are alcohol-related make nonsense of the idea of alcohol as salvation as suggested in the latest TV liquor advertisement. I accept the aim of G.0.A.L., the Group Opposed to Advertising of Liquor, that liquor advertising should be confined to the points of outlet. I support the Canterbury division of the N.Z. Medical Association, and the council of the association, which have passed resolutions calling on the Government to ban liquor advertising.— Yours, etc., B. MOUNTIER. June 30, 1983.
