Tale of two cats . . .

NZPA-Reuter Glasgow A whisky-sipping cat called Towser the Mouser has killed a world record 22,126 mice, according to her owner, a Scotch whisky distillery. Towser has the taste of a whisky connoisseur, preferring a dram of rare 15-year malt brands, but the eye of a killer when it comes to mice. Her record over 20 years has beten the previous mark by 126 for a place in the Guinness Book of Re-

cords, says the Glen Turret distillery at Crieff, Perthshire. The tortoiseshell terror sometimes falls down on the job because she’s usually under the influence of alcohol when prowling in the shisky-fumed atmosphere of the still house where she was born. But she’s regarded as a model employee by the distillery which says that it has kept an accurate record of her kills.

Meanwhile, in Hull, England, Kelly the cat came in dirty from a prowl—so Lindsey Lamb, aged two, popped him in the washing machine and watched him spin round. Lindsey’s mother rescued Kelly, but the toddler then put the bedraggled cat into the overn to dry off. Luckily for Kelly, Mrs Liz Lamb heard the overn timer ring and saved him again before he was roasted alive.
