Witnesses sought

The Christchurch police seek witnesses to an accident in Ham on Thursday evening in which a woman pedestrian was struck by a police van. The woman, Mrs Thelma Brown, aged 74, was seriously ill in the intensivecare unit at Christchurch Hospital last evening. She suffered severe head and leg injuries when she was struck by a police van heading south on Ham Road, near Rountree Street, about 6 p.m. A constable and his dog were the only occupants of the van. Anyone who had seen the accident should get in touch with the inquiries office at the Christchurch Central Police Station, said a police spokesman.
